The most notable feature is the pre-interview phone call. Before scheduling the in-person appointment, the consulate calls the applicant to have a brief conversation in Hungarian. This call typically lasts about five minutes. If the applicant's Hungarian is sufficient, they are given a date for the formal appointment.

One community member described it this way: the consul asked them to talk about themselves, listened, said "Jól beszélsz" (you speak well), and scheduled the appointment on the spot.
